Today I went to Scarborough for the industrial park criterium. Its a flat 1.25 mile four corner course. My plan was to complete both the A and B races. I went really hard on the previous day during the Saturday morning ride in Portland doing 36 miles with a 23.6 average. I used every match I had so I was very optimistic as to how well I would feel during these two races.

First up was the "B" race. My plan was to stay in the top 5 and not let a break get away from me. It was pretty tame for the first 3 laps, and then the prime laps started and that sped things up. My legs felt incredibly good when accelerating out of the corners and I didn't feel the effects from the previous day. I was situated in 6th heading down the back stretch on the final lap. I wanted to get to the outside so I could have plenty of room to sprint, but I found myself boxed in coming out of the second to last turn. I backed off a bit to get behind the person the was on my outside. Coming out of the last corner I jumped to the outside and got in my dig, but it was too little too late. I ended up 12th with plenty of gas in the tank. Average speed for 12 laps was 23.1.

Next up was the "A" race. My plan for this one was to just sit in with the pack. It stated off neutral for the first two laps and then the attacking started. I didn't want to get in anyones way so I was careful not to get up too far in the pack. That ended up biting me. Every turn involved 15 second standing sprints just to stay with the group. That was bad for me since I only had one wheel in front of me. Once I lost that draft it was the end for me. Average speed for the 10 laps I completed was 24.9.

I gained some experience and I will be back to give it another shot.
